Greetings from Kopan Monastery, Kathmandu

Dear students and friends,

I pray and hope everyone is in good health, happiness and practicing well with contentment, loving kindness, compassion, bodhicitta, respect, forgiveness, impermanent, letting go of suffering and of change in samsara, seeing the true nature of our own-self and inspiration towards Buddhahood within one lifetime.

In every moment we have to try to say good bye to suffering and welcome true happiness. Life is very fragile and is very simple to end life. It is so simple that the moment we breathe our last breath, that can also be the end of this life.

So if we don't appreciate every single moment of our life with wholesome pure virtue, happiness and whole heartedly from this very moment, then we might not have even a single moment in our life to appreciate and feel proud of our life with wholesome virtue, happiness and peace. No question about everlasting happiness the state of full enlightenment.

So whatever happen in our life, good or bad, just be happy and don't worry!

For the past three months since the day I went into strict retreat in the remote place of Ladak Himalaya, I had no access to anyone.

There were so many emails with so much care, prayers and dedication to me. I'm very touched and feel grateful. Sorry for the super late reply to your emails.

Countless thanks to my most kind beloved Guru Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche and Khen Rinpoche, Dagri Rinpoche, Tenzin Phuntsok Rinpoche and all the Gurus for their blessing for me to do this very important retreat.

I truly feel the blessing and I regard this retreat was one of the best retreat other than the 6 month retreat with my late Guru the Great Mahasiddha Geshe Lama Konchog in his cave in Tsum in year 1988.

I must say it was a very successful retreat and I sincerely dedicate the merits for the long, long, long life and fulfilment of all holy wishes of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche, Khen Rinpoche, Tenzin Phuntsok Rinpoche, Dagri Rinpoche, Geshe Sopa Rinpoche, Kyensure Losang Tsering Rinpoche, Khensure Losang Tenzin Rinpoche, Lawa Kusho Rinpoche, Kyabje Dema Locho Rinpoche, Choden Rinpoche, Drukpa Rinpoche, Geshe Kyechog and all other holy Gurus, to clear inner, outer and secret obstacles of all FPMT centre’s projects especially Malaysia FPMT centres and projects and to actualize pure dharma practices, long life, good health, successful and prosperity in all wishes of all my students, friends and all living beings.

I will be at Kopan for the time being to spend some time with Tenzin Phuntsok Rinpoche and Khen Rinpoche. I will also be leading LDC students to pilgrimage around holy places in Nepal in December.

With lots of prayers,

Welcome to Geshe Tenzin Zopa's blog new outlook!

It's been almost ten months since this blog was launched and it has also been an eventful year for Geshe Tenzin Zopa. We are extremely pleased to give his blog a new refreshing look so that the readers can look forward to exploring more on whatever it has to offer. Our intention is to unite everyone around the world through dharma going beyond the normal hypes.

We took advantage of this opportunity when Geshe Zopa went for a retreat to get this job done. Through this blog, all friends and students of his can still be kept informed of the on-goings into the world where Geshe Zopa live in. Just because we are oceans apart doesn't mean one can't stay connected with another.

With our little management expertise, we look forward to serving Geshe Zopa with full love and devotion so that he can continue to benefit more sentient beings with his practices. We hope you will enjoy this blog as much as we enjoyed working on it.

With lots of love,

Video on Phuntsok Rinpoche

This video was shot by Phuntsok Rinpoche’s personal guardian and manager, Ven Lhundup sometime in April 2008 to update me on his progress. I found it extremely refreshing, entertaining and interesting and I am sure all who love Phuntsok Rinpoche would want to see this video. The video was shot candidly without any editing or subtitle, in order to give all of you to see what he is doing. You will also be happy to know that he has started his language study. I have decided to share this wonderful video clip with all you readers and I hope you will enjoy it.

[This video footage was given to us approximately 2 months ago for uploading but due to incompatibility in format, it took us a while to convert from dvd to mpeg.

We apologize for the delay and we hope you enjoy them as we did.

Happy Birthday To Our Most Beloved Geshe Tenzin Zopa

Geshe Zopa turned 33 this July 16 and we at LDC had the collective karma, merits and opportunities to celebrate this special day with him. Due to GZ’s absence, LDC arranged GZ’s birthday to coincide with Kuan Yin’s enlightenment day which falls on July 21. Tenzin Gyurme Rinpoche and 8 other sanghas from Drati Kamtsen who’s here for their fund raising were also present to join in this auspicious celebration. The ambience was comfortable and there were quite a big turnout to celebrate both the event.

The wonderful thing about this type of celebration is the way all members jointly work together to organize the event. Everyone chip in with their contribution of food - pot luck style and arranged many sumptuous and delicious dishes ranging from Indian to Chinese cuisine. We also had a chance to chill out and stay cool with thirst quenching cocktail drinks. And for all the cake lovers, check out all the beautiful, divine and sinful rich cakes offered by members and friends from both Malaysia and Singapore. I bet you will fall in love with the food photos in the blog. It was truly a sign of real abundance of food offering. Rejoice! There were so much food and cakes that we all continue to indulge for the next few days (yummy).

As usual ... our extremely shy Geshe Zopa had to be invited several times to take his stand for the cake cutting. His message was to offer all these beautiful cakes and offerings to all the gurus and buddhas and this birthday is also for everyone. All the beautiful decorations are to be visualised as jewels in the mandala for offering. Om Ah Hum, Om Ah Hum, Om Ah Hum... Rejoice!! After all the satisfying meal we ended the evening with a guided meditation on Om Mani Padme Hum led by GZ followed by extensive light and flower offering.

These pictures were taken during the celebration in LDC.

Some of us have also organised a little outing with GZ in advance to celebrate his birthday last month. Perhaps we can say that we anticipated him to be away to Penang, Singapore and Nepal for quite a while and we surely didn’t want to miss spending this special and wonderful day with him. Kiasu lar! Again due to GZ’s merits, he had 2 great looking (and again sinful) birthday cakes. Infact, we wanted to do it different so we requested Siok Hong of Celicakes to bake us cupcakes with GZ’s name and arranged in heart shape. It was very delicious indeed.

“To the world you might be one person... but to us you are the world. Happy Birthday Dearest Geshe Tenzin Zopa”

May you continue to live a long and healthy life filled with peace, love and harmony and may all your spiritual and mundane wishes be instantly fulfilled.

These are some pictures taken during our wonderful luncheon.

Prayer for Auspicious Buddha's Day

The recommended practice to do during any auspicious Buddha's day is to take the Eight Mahayana Precepts and will gain the following benefits. The mantra of morality is specially beneficial for purifying the negative karma especially those that has to do with breaking ethics such as in relation to guru disciples, Samayas, Individual Liberation Vows, Bodhisattva Vows, Tantric Vows and even for impure relationships (among couples, children and parents, girlfriend and boyfriend, among friends and even nation to nation, etc). All other difficult relationship will be also be purified.

It is also highly recommended to practice Eight Mahayana Precept for the prevention of man made and natural disaster. Therefore this Eight Mahayana Precept, preserving the eight precepts for 24 hours which start before sunrise (recommended before 5.30 am) and end the next day before sunrise. This practice is not only suitable for holy occasions but can be done at any day. It is very easy plus it has unbelievable benefits.

If the whole world can do this precept even for a day, there could be a great chance to actualize peace in the world from every expect. If you alone do this practice, it has the great benefit to change the world to a better place. And of course it is one of the most powerful practice for protection and purification of past negativities and prevention from any form of future obstacles such as natural disaster, robbery, kidnapping, black magic or charm and negative energies from both human and environment.

If you are inspired to practice either for your own self or for your family, country or the whole world, then you can just follow the practice and preserve the precept purely and dedicate for the peerless happiness in particularly dedicate for actualization of your own wishes.

Taking the Eight Mahayana Precepts

This is a powerful practice recommended for the prevention of manmade and natural disaster.

Refuge
The guru is Buddha, the guru is Dharma
The guru is Sangha also
The guru is the creator of all (happiness)
To all gurus I go for refuge (3x)

Generating Bodhicitta
To accomplish my own and others aim
I generate the mind seeking enlightenment (3x)

Purifying the Place
Everywhere may the ground be pure
Free of the roughness of pebbles and so forth
May it be in the nature of lapis lazuli
And as smooth as the palm of one's hand

Offering Prayer
May human and divine offerings
Actually arranged and mentally created
Clouds of finest Samantabhadra offerings
Fill the entire place.

Offering Cloud Mantra
OM NAMO BHAGAVATE VAJRA SARA PRAMARDANE / TATHAGATAYA / ARHATE SAMYAKSAM BUDDHAYA / TADYATHA / OM VAJRE VAJRE / MAHA VAJRE / MAHA TEJA VAJRE / MAHA VIDYA VAJRE / MAHA BODHICITTA VAJRE / MAHA BODHI MANDO PASAM KRAMANA VAJRE / SARVA KARMA AVARANA VISHO DHANA VAJRE SHAVA (3X)

The Power of Truth

By the power of truth of the Three Jewels,
Of the blessings of all the buddhas and bodhisattvas
By the power of the great might of the completed two collections
And of the completely pure, inconceivable sphere of reality
May all these offerings become just so

Invocation
Protector of all beings without exception
Divine destroyer of the intractable legions of Mara
Perfect knower of all things
Bhagavan and retinue, please come here

Seven-limb Prayer
Reverently, I prostrate with my body, speech and mind
I present clouds of every type of offering, actual and imagined
I declare all my negative actions accumulated since beginningless time
And rejoice in the merit of all holy and ordinary beings
Please remain until end of cyclic existence
And turn the wheel of Dharma for living beings
I dedicate my own merits and those of all others to the great enlightenment

Brief Mandala Offering
This ground, anointed with perfume, strewn with flowers
Adorned with Mount Meru, four continents, the sun and the moon
I imagine this as a Buddha-field and offer it
May all living beings enjoy this pure land!

The objects of my attachment, aversion and ignorance
Friends, enemies, strangers – and my body, wealth and enjoyments
Without any sense of loss I offer this collection
Please accept it with pleasure and bless me with freedom from the three poisons

IDAM GURU RATNA MANDALAKAM NIRTAYAMI

Make three prostrations, reciting this mantra with each one ;

OM NAMO MANJUSHRIYE NAMAH SUSHRIYE NAMA UTTAMA SHRIYE SVAHA (3X)

Having made three prostrations, kneel on your knee with your hands together in prostration mudra and your head and shoulders bowed, visualize Guru Avalokitshvara before you, generate the profound bodhicitta motivation for taking the precepts, and repeat three times;

All buddhas and bodhisattvas, dwelling in the ten directions, please pay attention to me. Just as the previous Tathagatas, foe destroyers, perfectly completed buddhas who, like the divine wise horse and the great elephant, did what had to be done, perform actions, laid down the burden, subsequently attained their own welfare, completely exhausted the fetters to existence, and had perfect speech, well-liberated minds, and well liberated wisdom, for the welfare of all sentient beings, in order to benefit, in order to liberate, in order to eliminate famine, in order to eliminate sickness, in order to fully completely the thirty-seven practices harmonious with enlightenment, and in order to definitely actualize the unsurpassed result of perfect, completely enlightenment; similarly, also I, who am called [say your name], from this time until sunrise tomorrow, for the welfare of all sentient beings, in order to benefit, in order to liberate, in order to eliminate famine, in order to eliminate sickness, in order to fully complete the thirty-seven practices harmonious with enlightenment, and in order to definitely actualize the unsurpassed result of perfect, completely enlightenment, shall perfectly undertake the restoring and purifying ordination.

Upon completing the third recitation, think that you have received the vows in your continuum and rejoice. Then generate the thought of bodhicitta, the altruistic aspiration to attain enlightenment for the sake of all sentient beings, by thinking:

Just as the foe destroyers of the past have abandoned all misconduct of body, speech and mind such as taking lives of others, so shall I, for the sake of all beings, abandoned for one day these wrong actions and devote myself to the pure practice of the training.

The Commitment Prayer to Keep the Precepts
From now on I shall not kill
Steal others' possession
Engage in sexual activity
Or speak false words

I shall avoid intoxicants
From which many mistakes arise
I shall not sit on large, high and expensive beds
I shall not eat food at the wrong times

I shall avoid singing, dancing and playing music
And I shall not wear perfumes, garlands or ornaments
Just as the arhats have avoided wrong actions such as taking the lives of others
So shall I avoid wrong actions such as taking the lives of others

May I quickly attain enlightenment
And may the living beings who are experiencing the various sufferings
Be released from the ocean of cyclic existence

The Mantra of Pure Morality

OM AMOGHASHILA SAMBHARA /BHARA BHARA / MAHA SHUDDHA SATTVA PADMA BIBHUSHITA BHUDZA / DHARA DHARA / SAMANTA / AVALOKITE HUM PHAT SVAHA (21X)

Prayer to Keep Pure Morality
May I maintain faultless morality of the rules
And immaculate morality
May the perfection of moral conduct be completed
By keeping morality purely and untainted by pride

Make three prostrations

Dedication Prayers
May the supreme jewel bodhicitta
That has not arisen, arise and grow
And may that which has arisen not diminish
Increase more and more

Wesak in Malaysia, Singapore and Himalaya (TSUM)

This year Wesak was extremely meaningful. I had the opportunity to take 8 Mahayana Precept and various practices with the inspiration of so many people. At the same time I got the chance to travel to Amithabha Buddhist Centre, Singapore to attend Khen Rinpoche’s teachings joined by the large group from Malaysia to attend his long life puja which is very important practice for long and healthy life of both gurus as well as students.

The long life pujas was very well organized much to the delight of everyone. Although the journey from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore is quite long, everyone felt the trip was extremely fulfilling.

By the great merit of everyone in the group, we also had the opportunity to visit the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple in China Town, Singapore. We were all greeted by Benny who’s one of the temple key personnel. He took us on a tour of the whole place including viewing the relics of the Buddhas, Tathagatas and holy beings. By viewing, these relics enable them to establish great connections with the holy beings. We were also fortunate to meet the Abbot of the temple. Everyone was very inspired and amazed with the size and how the temple was built.

Immediately after the long life puja, the Malaysian group had a private audience with Khen Rinpoche. With the permission of Khen Rinpoche and Ven Lhundup, we had the opportunity to view and receive great blessing of all the holy relics of the Great Mahasiddha Geshela Lama Konchog. This exhibition granted the opportunity to thousands of people in Singapore during the few days of Wesak hosted and organized by Amitabha Buddhist Centre. The director and members of both centres expressed great gratitude and rejoice in the great success of the exhibition. Through this exhibit, many people were introduced not only to Amitabha Buddhist Centre but in particularly to dharma and connection to the Buddha’s emanation body (the relics).

These holy relics were also placed for viewing and blessing in Thekchen Choeling Centre for one day.

By now, the holy relics have returned to Relic Shrine in Kopan Monastery. There are still a lot of invitation of hosting of relics to various parts of the world mainly Ladak in Himalaya, Taiwan as well as Australia. I would say all this depends on the sincerity and the merit of the people receiving the blessings.

So it is indeed really rejoicing and I hope that all the people from the different parts of the world had the most meaningful Wesak by accumulating extensive merits and purifying numerous obstacles.

On top of all that, one of the greatest satisfaction I had this Wesak is the opportunity to organize 1 million recitation of Guru Padmasambhava mantra and 1 million Compassionate Buddha mantra as well as many sets of the Compassionate Buddha Nyung Nya especially focussing on the practice of taking the 8 Mahayana Precept. These are conducted not only by sanghas but by the lay people of Tsum in Rachen Nunnery and Mu Monastery led by the founder Drukpa Rinpoche and the respected Geshe Tenzin Choklek. These practices are dedicated especially to the victim of the Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar and Earthquake in Sichuan, China and for whatever present and future natural and manmade disasters in the world to be completely purified caused by negative karma.

May whoever sees this message, able to accumulate great amount of merits by rejoicing on this practices and immediately dedicate the merits accumulated for the same purpose. This will definitely benefit the victims.

Many thanks also goes out to all the sincere, humble and dedicated lifelong practitioners monks and nuns in Rachen Nunnery and Mu Monastery in Tsum and specially heartfelt thanks to Rinpoche and Geshela. Of course the root cause is all due to the kindness of our root guru Kyabje Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche, Khen Rinpoche and the late Geshela Lama Konchog.

Happy Saka Dawa !! From Amitabha Buddhist Centre (Singapore)

Dear Everyone

During Vesak Celebration 2008, Amitabha Buddhist Centre was greatly honoured to host the Relics Exhibition of the Great Mahasiddha Geshe Lama Konchog. Many people were blessed and inspired by the holy presence of Geshe-la's relics. On Vesak Day, we have accumulated the liberation of about 100 million animals. We joyously dedicate these merits to the long and healthy lives of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche, Khen Rinpoche Lama Lhundrup, Phuntsok Rinpoche, Geshe Chonyi, Geshe Zopa, and all FPMT Sangha.

We offer our deepest thanks to our Gurus for their blessings. May all their Dharma wishes be successfully accomplished.

This Saka Dawa, we will be conducting Medicine Buddha Puja, Guru Puja and Shakyamuni Puja with 1,000 offerings. Through the accumulation of merit and wisdom, may Amitabha Buddhist Centre continue to benefit many living beings, and be the cause for their full enlightenment.

Heartfelt Thanks from Thekchen Choeling (Singapore)

Dear all

During the auspicious period of Vesak , Singapore was blessed to be able to welcome the inspiring precious relics of His Eminence Geshe Lama Konchog. On a bright Saturday morning Thekchen Choling (Singapore) welcomed Geshe-la’s relics. Everyone was amazed at the range of relics brought very kindly to Singapore by Ven Thubten Lhundrup and which remained in the main gompa for the next two days. We were overjoyed when after much consideration, Ven Thubten Lhundrup agreed to have Geshe-la’s relics remain at the temple overnight . Some students and staff kept vigil through the night . Many people came to venerate Geshe-la’s relics and read about his life and reincarnation.

On that same day we released 400,000 lives as part of our regular animal liberation practice dedicated to the long lives of all kind and precious gurus.

We wish to thank everyone who made it possible for so many people in Singapore to venerate Geshe-la’s relics and receive great blessings. In particular to Khen Rinpoche Geshe Lama Lhundrup due to whose kindness this was made possible.

Choden Rinpoche visits LDC – April 2008

Once again we were so fortunate to have the opportunity to invite Choden Rinpoche to LDC and so blessed to receive the teachings on Heart Sutra and Clam Abiding. These 2 teachings are in fact the subjects from the Basic Foundation Course that LDC is conducting since January 2008 and all the students are indeed very fortunate to have the chance to receive direct teachings on these 2 topics. We also have the opportunity to receive the blessings of body, speech and mind of the Black Manjushri and many even had the opportunity to receive private blessing. Rinpoche also blessed the centre.

Rinpoche is very happy and his attendants expressed that this is one of the most enjoyable trip they have had. All the members, students and friends in LDC made their stay here in KL very comfortable and we all hope and pray that Rinpoche will again return to LDC soon.

At the same time, I had a surprise visitor who’s my former my classmate Chokor Rinpoche during Choden Rinpoche’s visit. He spend almost a month and even though I was busy with my duties in LDC and didn’t get a chance to attend to him but with the full support of our Venerables, I am sure Chokor Rinpoche enjoyed his stay and his wishes was fulfilled in every expect.

One of my friends, a Kopan monk also gave me a surprise visit and again due to my busy schedule I also didn’t spend much time with him but I hope he too enjoyed his stay in Malaysia.
