Hello From Kopan Monastery, Kathmandu

My wonderful dharma brothers and sisters,

Thank you very much for the beautiful comments on the blog and all the prayers and best wishes for me. I will do my very best to benefit other beings and serve guru buddhas in my best ability. I pray for all of you and at the same time specially wish for your ultimate happiness, great health, endless success and also a meaningful and long life.

Right now I am in Kopan Monastery working full time everyday from 8am to 8pm. with Ven Rubina to finish the biography of the hidden yogi the Great Mahasiddha Geshe Lama Konchog. We are doing great and hopefully we will accomplish all before Ven Rubina leaves on Dec 6. At the same time, I also visited some important holy places such as the two great stupas, Pharping, Vajrayogini holy places and relics, etc.

For your information, I have included every single one of you (plus everyone whom I know) in my daily prayer and dedication. Every night I do light offerings and prayers at Geshe Lama Konchog 1,000 Buddha stupa in Kopan and I also dedicated to everyone and those who have requested me to pray for them.

Take good care and see you soon. May Buddha's blessing be with you all the time.

I will be away

I will be in Nepal from Nov 20 – Dec 30, 2007.

From the afternoon of Nov 20th to Dec 6, I will be in Kopan Monastry working with Ven Rubina who is the editor of Geshela Lama Konchog’s biography. The biography is already in its final stage. I will stay longer as I will be receiving many LDC members coming from Kuala Lumpur to attend Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s long life puja, teachings and also perform pilgrimage. I will also get the opportunity to spend some time with Tenzin Phunsok Rinpoche towards the end of my trip because after my return to Kuala Lumpur this time, I don’t know when I will be going back to Nepal. During my stay in Kopan, I will also be meeting friends from Singapore, Hong Kong and other countries.

Here are some photos taken before i board the flight.

Teachings In Bangkok

We left Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok on November 9. It was a very meaningful dharma trip organized by a group of Thai devotees, Irene and friends. There were teachings, pujas, blessings and interaction between Tibetan Buddhism and Thai Buddhist. I presented myself as an example of being a Tibetan Buddhist practitioner with a very open mind and showing the equal respect to Theravadan teachings and practitioners. This was done through my explanation in Theravadan teachings that it is all interrelated and it is necessary to practice to achieve the purpose of becoming a Buddhist especially to become a Buddha. And without mastering all the teachings that Buddha have thought, it is impossible to become omniscient. It is important to clear whatever doubts between the limited knowledge of some Theravadan practitioners towards the Mahayana practitioners specially Vajrayana practitioners, which is actually the same as the Theravadan practice. I tried to prove it with logic, reasons and quotes from Buddha himself that this different form of teaching such as Theravadan teachings, Bodhisattvayana teachings and Tantrayana teachings are all Buddha’s teachings except that it’s taught in different “yanas”. This is because of the mental disposition of the different practitioners. I also told them about the great vajrayana ritual practices are not a form of superstitious. It is in fact a form of symbolism of the different stages of the 84,000 teachings. I emphasized ways to be a pure Buddhist is to take refuge and that refuge is the same whether they are Theravadan or Mahayanic practitioners.

There were over 200 people who expressed their appreciation and claim that the essence of the teachings had awaken their mind. I can tell that they respect the teachings especially my emphasis to proper gurus and tradition such as the importance to rely on His Holiness Dalai Lama. I also tried to connect this group of people directly to His Holiness, to follow his advice and to take him as the fellow of tradition and no matter whatever dharma books they should be reading. This was highly appreciated by them and they feel so blessed by this.

It was a very successful trip because the event was well organized. The organizer advertised this teaching event through television, radio, newspaper, posters and magazine. In fact, I regard the turnout as a great achievement. Everyone requested me to return soon and I am very sure there will be a bigger crowd next time.

With the blessings of the gurus, I really like to thank LDC Director and fellow members who strongly supported me to be there. Special thanks to the organizer and their teams for making my first trip to Thailand so memorable and beneficial. I can feel the karmic affinity in dharma with these wonderful people. In fact, I have tried to go to Thailand before but it never happen. So I regard this as a special event and we have definitely connected with dharma so we all pray for the best and rejoice.

It was amazing to explore the great holy sites. I don’t remember the names but I visited the largest reclining Buddha temple and there was one great golden stupa that hosted buddha’s relic. There were also many beautiful stupas in one medallion Buddha temple. It was really stunning. Every one was very respectful toward sanghas and I think they are also very interested in dharma especially to learn more about bodhisattva’s practices so I regard this as an auspicious start and I am sure it will be a success in the future. During the trip, I also met over 100 people from different countries such as China, Cambodia, Korea, Japan, Italy Germany, Russia, India, America, Canada, Egypt..etc. All these people had big smiles on their faces all the time and I was surprise when they requested me to take photographs with them. I can tell they are very happy with this meeting. I took this opportunity to make strong prayers by chanting of Om Ah Hum and requesting them to live happily and I explained to them the reasons they must be happy. I also told them we have definitely connected with a lot of auspiciousness. I can feel that I have connected with these people and will be going to these countries later to spread dharma. This special inspiration came to my mind.

We had the chance to try all sorts of Thai food. Even though I had gastric, I decided to give it a try and everything turned out to be very nice, my favorite food is Tom Yam. One night I called the delegates of LDC such as Ven Osel, Stanley, Emillie and Chung Han who informed me that some of them enjoyed the traditional massage very much. I too have my share of massage, pressing the points on my feet with my fingers while reading book on my bed.

We also visited the 4 face deity. It was interesting to see the different forms of worship and more interesting to hear the stories about it. Another fun place we visited was the night market. It was nice but I prefer the solace of my room.

On the last day we had some tour around the city, window shopping and then head straight to the airport.

Khenrinpoche's Visit and Long Life Puja

This year Khenrinpoche’s visit to Malaysia was almost for a month. He managed to visit our brother and sisters’ centers and he has reached out to all the students plus many new comers and he also connected many people to Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche and Kopan Monastery. As usual Khenrinpoche is always humorous and so filled with laughters. His teachings, consultations, blessings, initiations, house blessings and his loving approached has touched and change the lives of hundreds of people. Although Khenrinpoche’s schedule was very packed but he managed every single movement with great joy which make his visit very beneficial and auspicious and it also pleases his holy mind.

I received a call from Khenrinpoche recently after his return to Nepal expressing that it had been one of the most beneficial trip and he was very touched by the interest, effort and inspiration towards the dharma shown by the many old and new students. He also expressed his appreciation and heartfelt thanks to Lillian, Exco members, sanghas and students of LDC and sister centers, with lots of blessing and prayers.

October 7th, 2007 was a very auspicious and memorable day for Kopan Abbot Khenrinpoche and all LDC students. Hundreds of Malaysia and Singapore students had the opportunity to offer the most extensive long life puja for Khenrinpoche to live long and be clear of all obstacles for his life, fulfilled all his holy wishes and able to connect him with Buddha dharma in all life time. There were also the performance of the 5 dakinis of the heaven conjoined with extensive sequence of prayers, praises, request, supplications and dedication. It was also very auspicious that Khenrinpoche expressed his acceptance to live long. I can tell that it has pleased his holy mind and his presence here is filled with great happiness especially with the programs, practices, service and devotion and the closeness among the members of LDC, Chokyi Gyaltsen Penang, Rinchen Jangsemling and Kasih Hospice. This was one of the most extensive pujas offered to Khenrinpoche and we constantly pray and hope to have such opportunities in the coming years to do the same and as extensive and traditional as for Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s long life puja this year.

With the blessings of the gurus, LDC members had the merits to invite and host His Holiness Shakya Trizin to LDC on Oct 3. It was such an auspicious day not only for the LDC students but many others. With the blessing and presence of His Holiness and Khenrinpoche, this is the first time any Vajrayana centre have hosted for all different traditions to come in unity and practice for the same purpose.

Thousand Offering Event

WOW!!!!! The thousand offering event was gorgeous. It is simply stunning and the arrangement of the event was one of the best I have ever seen. The success was attributed to the tireless effort of LDC members, students and friends who worked day and night around the clock. It’s really inspiring! This is the first year I see the Thousand Offering event especially under the guidance and presence of the precious guru Khenrinpoche of Kopan Monastery. It has made a great imprint for thousands of people in the 3 days, to ripen their good karma to connect with the compassionate Buddha’s teaching especially to connect with the most astonishing Tibetan Buddhism and those who follows strictly 100% under the guidance of His Holiness Dalai Lama and Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche.

This event also benefited a large number of people who passed away by performing very powerful purification prayers and practices and there were prayers also done for different purposes including for world peace. By hosting Buddha’s holy relics and many other holy objects, many were able to accumulate extensive merits by just having a glimpse on the holy objects. All the extensive offerings are so inspiring. There were many holy items for those who were interested to invite into their home and a lot of free dharma materials distribution for different benefits. It has been a great memorable, beneficial, outstanding and wonderful event. It has changed many people’s life in virtue. VERY REJOICING.!

Trip to Kopan (September 2007)

It was a surprise visit to Nepal especially to my beloved guru Khenrinpoche, Tenzin Phuntsok Rinpoche and many of my other respected teachers such as Geshe Keychog who’s over 90 yrs old and is one of the most senior geshe in Kopan Monastery, my family members, dharma brothers and sisters. It’s was a very tight schedule but I managed to spend some time with everyone.

I also had a surprise companion in the flight with my dharma brother William, Candy and her mother. The flight was full of fun and at arrival we had tea at Hyatt Kathmandu. Due to their merits I also got the opportunity to visit many holy places from my busy schedule and it was a day before their departure to Malaysia when the film director Nati and the photographer Uri, both from Israel arrived in Kopan. That night we all had a wonderful dinner and wonderful chat shared by everyone about their encounters in Buddha dharma.

Nati,Uri and I left for Pokara the next day after William and Candy left for home. We could not get a direct flight from Kathmandu and in Pokara we were delayed for two days because of the heavy rain. However when we arrived in Tsum, we were greeted with bright sunny day which allowed us to have wonderful view of the mountains, rivers and waterfalls. So that made it a fantastic day to land in Tsum in front of Rachen Nunnery. Our tight schedule in filming started that day where we went to Tibet up to Tsolong Kyok (a holy lake). The lake which is located 4,500 meters above sea level posses great challenge for me and the film crew, a total of 15 of us together with many horses. We had to cross the river, high mountains and cliffs. It was dangerous but exciting and we were surrounded by beautiful mountain sceneries. It was great tracking and exploration of a very remote untouched mountain. When we returned some of us fell from the horse including myself. I got thrown from the horse and my hands got scratched. Our manager in Tsum Tenzin Lhundup fell down from the cliff together with the horse. It was a miracle and with the blessing of the Buddhas and the power of the pujas that was performed before the journey, both the horse and Tenzin Lhundup was safe without even a scratch on them. Then on the 15th I returned to Kopan where we continued our filming till 11 am on the September 17th. the day I had to rush to the airport and return to LDC, Kuala Lumpur and to receive the arrival of Khenrinpoche the following day.
